Hydraulic Fluid, where does it go??

Guy, when I open the hood , on the right side under a plastic cover is Fluid container,it says hydraulic fluid on it. What is it for, cause its low on fluid and I wanted to add, dont know what kind of fluid to add.

I dont have udjustable suspension, dont have the button for it. SO what is it for?

Also, the horn is working very bad, and blow a fuse from time to time if I use it too much, anything I can do short of changing it?

if you are talking about the one up by the fire wall just under the windshield on the right hand side, that is for your break fluid.
if not the only other one i know of is at the front of the engine and that one is for power steering fuid.

Hydraulic fluid

All 500SEL and S have load leveling. The container is for the load leveling suspension, and you should use MB fluid ($pensive) DO NOT use power steering fluid. If you dont see any leaks on the hydraulic struts (shock look alike) you probably have a leak into the accumulator (sphere with rubber diapram filled with nitrogen) attached to the srut.
They tend to give a bouncey ride at first, and then hard as all the gas has leaked. It is not a big job but messy as the oil leaks out $100 each plus a hour labor. The dipstick should have fluid and is measured "unloaded" the oil comes in a liter I think, if your car is serviced by a competant person they should be able to top it off.
You could disconnect one of the horns there are two under the front bumper (one each side)

Thanks Peter once agian.

The ride is not too bouncy, but it does thump a lot over small pot holes.
So could it be that I am missing oil, or are the Accumulators shot. Will the shocks need to be replaced as well. I dont see any leaks around them at all.

Thanks

I wanted to replace them but my MB service advisor gave me the "if they dont leak dont change" I replaced the accumulators, the ride is fine $300. They can be changed by a good shop also!

privet tbilisi,

the reservouir is for the hydraulic fluid (sold at all authorized mercedes dealers for $15-20 a quart) for the rear shocks (amortizator).

make sure that you fill it after the car has been shout down for a few hours, because if your hydraulic suspension system works, when you start the car, the fluid starts to circulate in a system, and you can`t fill it at the correct level.

good luck
