You WILL lose value either way when you take stock paint off and repaint, however keeping it the SAME color it came New doesnt affect the price as much as a totaly different color.your choice,I would go stock colors.

You should paint the lower panels to match the upper color. A single color W140 looks sick. Mine came stock with the Antrhacite Black color on upper and lower... very neat looking. White looks real good too. Don't worry about the value of the car. It's already used and that won't have much to do with the resale value. If your car was a Gullwing that might be a different story.

LOL....As a GM of a USED Carlot, Resale value is important, people start asking questions as to why the whole car was repainted(hiding things) a Gullwing and a w140 are TWO different worlds, lol were talking about a LEGEND in the Gullwing and a pre w220 body style..and MANY THOUSANDS of dollars in difference, paint the car the EXACT same it would be you will lose some value but not as much as changing colors you would have to paint door jams, trunk jam, engine compartment, inner shell of ALL body parts(to do it right)it just not worth it.

yeah...with a ton of problems.Value is value..even if the w140 has lost a bunch in the past few years, its still a investment of your money and to ever get anykind of money back on it you should keep them close to stock..as a dealer were very weary of ANY CAR that has had a complete paint job..and even more nervous of one with a different color then the numbers say it is...you wanted a white car in the 1st place you should buy a white car,not a gold car then go paint it white, makes no sense.
Omey is right on one thing-its YOURS do what you want.were all not going to agree on the same thing so go with your own judgment-good luck.

i am leaning myself toward white....but still want to leave it champaine...you see the champaine color i have now is like new although the car is 1994--very high quality paint ithink its dirt resistant or something cause i can go couple of months without washing it and still looks shinny, oppossite my black 98 s320 which needs to be washed every week...if i paint it white will it have same "dirt resistant" quality?

yeah wash atleast once a week, white hides dust, but ive never heard of a white car hiding "dirt". black is the worst...my parents White Excursion shows DIRT...lol dirt is dirt mud, road tar ect thats gonna show on white, wear a white t-shirt and play in it all day long...you wont see any dust on it but plenty of dirt..plus White cars are all over the place, having something different thats gonna make heads turn...AGAIN unless your gonna go with Pearl White thats totaly diff.

btw, so if you get some stuff on your car, by your definition, if you cant see it, its called dust and if you can see it its called dirt? riiiiiiiight

well it depends on how long you go w/o dusting your car off,a few layers of dust can be seen,i carry a duster with me and everythign i need to detail it on my trunk so i dont see much dirt or dust on my s500,but yeah Dirt is something i would say you can see, thats why its called dirt...and when you can SEE dirt on a car, then your car is called "DIRTY". understand now yankee?

hey guys, I'm debating the same thing... I already have champagne but i have the two tone, my bottoms are pretty banged up and paint has been scratched away in a few areas and also I plan on getting the updated from W140 bumper b/c my front one is missing a tow hook panel, its got paint missing, and one side has now been pulled out so i figured its perfect time to do the swap over to new bumper. what do yall think?

Body kits and any mods will decrese the value, unless you find someone with identical taste. Any time you change the color where do you stop? take off the door handles the cladding, under weatherstrip painting over the jambs will either cover the stickers or show an outline, will you paint under the hood? The mercedes vin numbers are all over the car in a decal form indicating any repaced panels or bumpers. I made the mistake of getting a hood refinished on a 89 SEC(stonepits), the appraiser took the value down.
My opinion, if you create a custom it will be.
