Squeak

I have an Annoying squeak comming from the rear left suspention area when driving.
i was told it could be a metal over rubber bushing under the rear shock that had failed and needs replacing or its the shock itself.
i had the car up on a hoist and the shoks look realy good, no leaks anywhere from the shocks or the reservoir spheres.
did any of you ever experiance this problem?
the car rides great not to soft and not to hard.
I hope its not the shock $$$$.

Depends what kind of sound it is.

If its a thump over the small bumps, it can be either the shock bushing or the accumulator for the shock. I seem to have this problem with accumulators in the back, I will fix it in the future.

Spray the bushing with a lubricant and see if it gets better, if it does, then it is probably just a bushing.

Good luck

No thump, its a squeak comming from the rear right area at any speed regardles of road conditions, if a drive on the smooth road the squeak is their just by the slight up and down motion of the car, when i go over un even surfaces and the rear shocks are working harder and the up and down shock travel is longer the squeak is the same more on the short range so i think it may not be the shock, if it was the squeak may last thrue the whole range of shock travel up or down.
aparently their is no way to lube or oil it if it is a bushing.
I'll try to mave my mechanic look at it on Friday at the same time as a get an oil change done.

Read this. It may help you.

Pete replaced his rear strut due to a thumping noise, but there is a bushing thingy topping the strut which is replaceable. That could be your problem. Just a wild guess. Or it could still be the strut itself. You may be able to put the car on jack stands and use a jack to move the suspension arm through its full travel to see if you can hear the squeak and locate it.

I changed my strut bump stop because of what sounded like a rattling / slight knocking I heard from the right rear. That didn't cure the problem. The sound eventually turned into something that sounded like a creaky old wooden ship. It turned out to be the strut itself. A good way to check is to grab the various components while someone pushes down on the corner of the car. Listen carefully, and also try to feel any squeak or vibration in the components. When I held onto my strut, I immediately could tell it was something inside the strut. Like you, the noise was there going over the smallest bumps, not big ones.

I was afraid it may be the strut itself.
i dont know if it is yet.
is their a way to oil or somehow eliminate the squeak without replacing the strut? i'm not thriled with the cost of changing one.
the strut isself is wotking fine as far as the ride and suspention, its a shame to spend bout $1000 for a squeek eliminator.
any thoughts?

One large can of spray lubricant. I believe there are rubber/plastic bushing lubricants at any auto parts store. Spray anything that moves and see what happens.

As I stated before, if you grab onto the strut while someone moves the car up and down, you might be able to feel the squeak in the strut. I clearly felt interference in mine. You can also use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope. Touch the end to the various parts and bushings. Place your ear on the handle portion of the screwdriver. This will make it easier to hear where sounds may be coming from. In my case, the strut was creaking on the inside of the chamber. I suspect a seal was worn or torn, and that it was sticking inside the bore. No lubing or spraying will fix that particular problem. Do as Brett says first. Get a can of white lithium grease in spray form, and spray all the bushings you can find. Don't let it hit the brake parts or sensors. See if the squeak goes away. If you do need a strut, contact Mike at Strutmasters...

It'll be about $400 with shipping. Tell him Pete in Chicago sent you.
