Loud bumping noise when are moves from a stop 1993 w140
In my '93 w140, from a stop to a go, or slowing down to a stop, there is a really loud bumping noise. I took the car to a local mechanic, and he lifted the car up on the lift, and had me put the car in drive in air as he examined the drivetrain. Afterwards, I get down and he shows me the possible problem, there is some rubber peice which connects the driveshaft or whatever, and it is cracking or just broken. I have no real idea about the terms on the car, or what is really wrong with the car, but I was wondering if anyone knew what i looked at and tell me what this peice is, and how much it'll cost to fix. Sorry for being so bleak, but i have no idea what i looked at...

The job may involve a lot of extra labor costs, however, because the rear exhaust system may have to come off (at least that's what it looked like to me when I was under my car a lot recently).
