Power Steering Question

Hey guys for the past two days when My wife and I leave for the office its been cold outside and the powersteering makes a whining noise for a few mins and then it goes away and im fine,is it becase of the cold and the fliud needs tiem to thin up from the cold??? i havnt checked my fluid in a while it could be low but im thinking its the cold weather???? has anyone else had this problem???

I've been having the problem too. It sounds like metal-to metal, really horrible noise. After it warms up its okay.....

turned out after i checked it i saw that i was low,so its fine now,i havnt had had to fill itup since last year,but im sure the cold weather isnt helping either.

mine used to do the same thing, a quick top up of fluid did the trick here to.

1987 300SDL aka the "Money Pit"
I had the same problem last winter when the temps dropped.

Flushed the PS fluid with some MB fluid and the whine went away.

Most people never flush their PS fluid but they should every few years. Also a lot of cars have a filter in their. I know the S320's do.

1998 Mercedes S320

where is the power steering filter located in 1998 S320? I was trying to order from Autohausaz, and the picture looks like, that filter could be in pump, and in other website of rockauto.com has different pic., I haven't look through in power steering reservoir. Is it easy to replace filter in power steering?
