I've owned a '96 S280 for almost a year now. At the moment, there's rotten egg smell in the exhaust at idle, especially when the engine is hot.

After thorough underneath inspection, what surprises me is that there is no O2 sensor anywhere. All the pipes and mufflers are all original with factory weld and MB stamps. So, no O2 sensor to change.

So, I'm wondering how to correct the rotten egg exaust smell! Does this mean there's no Cat as well? What about the air pump? I also doubt if there is one either.

I've checked and literally smelled the exaust before i bought this car and there was no bad smell.

BTW, this car is in Thailand, RHD, and was manufactured somewhere in East Asia.

im very surprised theres no lambda sensor - i only have the epc for the US cars (S320 was the smallest they did over there) - and that has sensors...

rotten egg smell is usually a cat not warmed up properly.. orit could jut be a high sulpher content fuel - how long has this gone on for?

My '95 S320 had the rotten egg smell. I bought the car new and they (MBNA) couldn't ever explain it. They ended up doing a buy back on the car for a different problem.

The M104 should have the Cat on these
two locations (I think the red ring have a wrong location of the front one...)
