Difference between 400SEL & S420?

Besides the usually interior changes, I believe the rear trunk and lights are a bit different (angled on older, more round lines on newer). They got rid of those trunk antennas that went up when you engaged Reverse. A bit of engine changes...I'm sure I'm missing a few more.

Door and trunk closers...
At some point, MB cut costs on some of the S-classes. The newer ones might not have the hydraulic/pneumatic door and trunk closers.
Make sure to check. It's a luxury feature that impresses passengers.
Another luxury feature that I miss on my E is the extending seat cushions on the front seats. I hope you find one with that.

PS My airconditioning weakened at 90K miles. There was a wire-harness relay project on the horizon. The prediction was $2K-$3K at 100K miles.
