Latest model year for w140 S600 sedan?
according to Mbusa , 1999 is the last model year for w140 S600. However some other resources claims the latest model year for S600 is 1998. I have been checking autotrader and ebay for sometime, never seen any 99 w140. mostly 97s and a few 98s.
Does anybody have any info on this?

1999 was indeed the last model year for the W140 S-Class in the U.S. Now when people say 1998 they're likely talking about when the actual production ended. You see the W220 went on sale here in the U.S. in spring of 1999 as a 2000 model, but it went on sale in Europe right after the Paris auto show of 1998 so of course actual production of the W140 ended sometime during the summer of 1998. MB usually just builds a glut of cars to ship here and a few other markets that get the new models after mainland Europe.

A similar situation is likely going on right now for the current CL Coupe. Since the new car will be out in Europe this summer, our 2006 CL is likely ending production as we speak, but they've built enough of them to keep a trickle of U.S. sales going until the new CL gets here at the end of the year.
The reason the 1999 W140 models are so hard to find is because there were very few of them built, especially S600s.

so a late 98 S600 is almost the same age of 99 S600 since both were made in 98. What are the differences of the 99 and 98? I found no difference.
one interesting info I found is w140 production continued untill 2001 for special orders...10-15 cars per year, 00 and 01. All were armed guard cars.
