Late Model W140 or the Last year's of 740?
I really want an S class from the late 90s.... I think they are the best result of sedan evolution that I can imagine. However, BMW 7 series also seem to be great cars, and they also seem to be more reliable. I am a huge benz fan, and have turned down a free late 90s S90 volvo because I believe it to be inferior to my 84 W126 SD with 229K on it.... The more cars I look at, the better deal the 7 Series appears to be. My father owns a German Auto shop, and everyone in the place has a very low opinion of Mercs after the 126 and 124. They make most of their money off of newer VW's and Audi's (tons of electrical problems benefit them well). My father drives a 126, as do I. As much as I love the car, the general consensus seems to be that the late model 7 Series would be a better investment and be less troublesome to fix than a late model w140. If you had a choice between the two, any size engine in the S class VS the 740 that is a year or two newer.... which would you chose? Also, i hear those never change tranny's are troublesome on both cars, but which one is a better set up? I know you have to change the fluid in them, but I don't have much faith in previous owners, because they all seem to sell them at the time that the tranny hits 100k, which is when those tranny's go unless you'ved serviced them every 50-60k.... Any advice would be great!
