Oil Level Sensor
I am trying to find the oil level sensor on my 97 S500. The indicator came on, when I checked the oil level, it was full. Since then the indicator goes on after a few minutes of driving, sometimes it goes out then comes back on again. I have not been able to locate it under the car does anyone know what I should be looking for?

I also have this problem, I don't trust oil sensors as when the light comes on it si usually too late anyway, I have considered pulling the fuse just to make the light go away. My mechanic said he can replace it when he is doing an oil change and that it is located somewhere in the sump, thats as much as I know

You should be able to do this yourself, it is located on the oil filter housing (see diagram below, part #71). This is on the right side of the engine, down low in front of the right motor mount.
The part is commonly available online (original VDO unit) for about $62.

Thanks a mil, this has been driving me crazy for some time now. Graphics were superb.

Peter, too right. The illustration I posted is for the oil pressure sender.
Massbenzo posted the pic for the oil level sensor, which is really what he wanted.
