whats up guys
Just picked up a 1998 S420 a few days ago. my E died. needs a new tranny. so i picked this beast up.
it's a blast so far.
White on Grey. pretty spiffy. 130k. picked it up for 12.
i'm the second owner. guy used it to commute to to the bay area from the valley, so it's pretty much highway miles. all service records.
i'll post pics of it soon. it's raining here now. maybe tomorow i'll post some.
anything special i should know about these cars? i'm already amaised by the automatic windshield wipers and the door suckers. i drove the e and the altima, lol needless to say the altima didnt have that crap.
looking forward to this section of the fourm.

Congratulations....
Beautiful car you got, has such a prescense, and thats what makes it so appealing.
You will have some issues down the road, like with most cars, hopefully not much, and mercedes issues require more money to fix than other cars. Not to worry. There is tons of advice on this forum and the benzworld.org forum, that many on here can tackle these problems on their own, through advice, alldata , etc....and if of course if you can find a could trusty mechanic, you can always on online and pick up parts that you need for half the price of a dealer's price.

not exactly new to benzies. i had me E. i still love it even though it's siting sad and useless in my driveway. i did pretty much ALL the maintnance on the E, i'm just terrified of this engine. I really need to get ahold of a FSM.
i think i'm getting the ticking sound that is described in different threads. i'm thinking that i'm going to attempt to fix it myself. although i probally wont have the time to get it done. i'm going to bring it back to the dealer and see if they will fix it. i did pass on the extended warrenty, i'm thinking that is the stupidist thing that i could have ever done!
so far i love the car, i ablosutely love it. the power and refinment of the engine is just crazy.
