hows the 600 in terms of repairs?

Hey guys,

I'm seriously considering buying a 92 S600 with about 58000kms on it...so i have no idea how many miles that is...you guys figure out...

the car seems to be in good condition and everything...

but i'm just wondering...how are these machinese in terms of repairs? i mean, it IS 14 years old now, although very low mileage...are they reliable? lots of problems? expensive to fix?

These are just some of the things i'm considering.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated...thanks

Gary

Had a 97 SL600 - same motor that would be in your W140. Great to car to have. I drove mine to 70k miles and then traded it in. While under warranty to 50k miles had some minor issues with the ADS suspension and some other little electrical items. Although I imagine repairs to a V12 would be costly, I never had one engine issue--oh, I did have some rough idling at 20k miles and the dealer replaced all the ignition wires and the car was traded in at 70k miles without one issue that would have been specific to the V12. The motor was incredible, thoroughly enjoyable. But, I would recommend that you spend a little more and get a V12 from a dealership with some type of warranty. Although you might get a great price from a provate seller, you just never know what may, or may not, have been done to the vehicle.

pcmaher --> What a great website. Tons of very useful information. I am so glad that I never had to delve into such repairs, but your site does provide a wealth of knowledge. I added it to my favorites

SL600 repair

The SL600 engine never has any serious problems, it's very well engineered and very reliable. The car might suffer from minor issues here and there that are not engine or 600 related, just sometimes poor Mercedes build quality which is becoming unfortunately a bit of an issue. I would suggest buying one under warranty because if you fix all the minor problems early on, you should have a very reliable car that will last you a very long time.
