Sr Dash Light On

Hi
I have been looking at a 92 s600 80k. It has all the right things done to it(wiring harness, map sensor, a/c condensor), and everything functions, exception being the drivers air bag.
Is it the same as on a w126, where the contact ring gets dirty, or corroded causing the sytem to issue the dash light?

Unlike the 126 there are no contact rings on the back of the wheel. If your buying the car you need to get it check out by a mechanic anyway no matter how good you think you are at checking things they may be able to pull codes and tell you whats going on.

Hmm, thats weird what did the mechanic say to you about that? I don't really want to say with something as important as the airbag but if there was no code then the system must be ok, the only thing I could guess would be a faulty cluster which happens on early W140's. I'd be interested in what the mechanic thought it was.

So the W140 did have those 4 rings like the 124 at some stage?

Are you saying that a 1992 w140, could have the same style steering wheel air bag contact as a 1991 w126?

Could it be by the date of manufacturing, and this being produced in late 1991 perhaps?

I know on my 1989 420SEL, manufactured in October of 1988, it did not have the need air bag SRS tags required by the government starting in 1989. I have a letter sent to the original owner, Perry Como, from the president of MBUSA, which has the air bag stickers and instructions on where they should be placed. It also directs them to contact a local W Palm Beach dealership to have them installed, if they wanted it done for them.
