Cruise Control works on and off, where is the first place to look at?

Cruise Control works on and off, where is the first place to look at?
Hi all,
My cruise control on my W140 94 S350 Diesel works on and off. Sometimes it won't engage at all when switched, sometimes while engaged will slip off for no reason. I already checked the brake switch by pull it back by foot to make sure that the switch of the brake light is not closed. Where is the module that I can look into and how to confirm it is bad? The car has 170 K on it got some closing assist issue which I work around but pulling off/on the fuse #3 and it will last for a week and I plan to check the vacuum/pressure hose this spring. Other than that things work as it suppose to for the age of the car. The best thing is I got 30+ mpg and about +/-500 miles to a full tank of diesel..! We will be out driving this spring on vacation, so the cruise control will come in handy...!
