Better brakes for my 1999 S600

Just got back from the dealer, said my 1999 S600 was a great car.

I need to replace one motor mount, and all the brake rotors and pads are near their limits.

I want better braking than stock. The new CHROME 19 inch CL600 rims I had put on today can hold a bigger rotor, but even cross drilled stock size rotors and ceramic low dust pads are OK.

And no I don't want to spend $3500 for a complete Brembo front set. I did put a set of AMG Brembo brakes on my W203 Coupe for just over $500 because they have stock MB part numbers

I searched both the W140 forum and the brake and tire forum with little W140 results.

Anyone know if the 2002 Silver Arrow brakes would fit? The rotors are drilled stock.

All relative. I don't have the specs, but with the stock 16 inch tires I doubt the S600 could stop better than 130 feet from 60 MPH. And about 175 feet from 70.

My W203 with the AMG Brembo brakes and PS2 tires will probably stop in less than 110 feet from 60 and 145 from 70.

That is several car lengths difference, and way more than the difference of a close call and a major wreck. That is why all AMGs have bigger brakes, to match their hotter engines.

Tires make as much difference as the brakes, use cheap tires, or really hard ones like the Mich Symetry, and the tires become the limiting factor.

None of my cars will ever have anything but Z rated tires, and becuase I live in sunny Kalifornia, I don't have to worry about snow. So normally I use summer ultra performance or max performance tires.

If I can get the brakes just a little bit better I will be happy.

Brembo rotors ceramic pads

Just ordered a set of Brembo front and rear drilled rotors and Akebono Euro ceramic pads. Also getting the stainless steel braided brake lines.

I figure the Brembo rotors are better quality than the other drilled ones on eBay and at other brake sites.

Got the ceramic pads from Performance Products (they are a sponsor right?)

Brembo rotors from eBay, a Canada firm.
