Radio replacement
http://tinyurl.com/34sl73
So now I will need a code for it, right?
Also, the rear speakers don't work. Dunno why not. But in the boot is a CD unit but no cable to it. It is not installed. Where might I find a cable?
BTW, the reason for replacement is that the tape drive doesn't work. I use it for playing my mp3 or portable cd player so it is necessary. I sure hope the replacement radio's tape drive works.
Thanks for your ideas.

Thank you for your reply.
I received my $45 replacement radio today.
I need the removal tools and also the code.
Who sells the two removal tools?
For my code, my VIN is WDBGA51E7PA122909. Who can use this to tell me my code?
The current radio and its front speakers play nicely
My goal is get a tape player working.
If all else fails, I suppose Ebay gets to collect a second commission when I put it back up for sale so the cost isn't all that risky.

the radio you linked to, came out of a 89 or so according to the E -Bay ad, you will have to try to post the serial number of the radio, there are some who can decode it. The vin for your car wont help unless the radio that is presently in it needs a code. Becker sells the code but it is almost what you paid for the radio. The Becker page shows that it could work in a 93
For your info the radio you have has only two outputs , right and left, and those are sent to the Bose, if the fronts work properly I would think fader maybe. The radio tools can be had from the deale, there are some sold on E-Bay, and some sold at Performance products. I think sorting it all out will take some time
I just opened the box containing my Grand Prix electronic radio. Model No. 754.
Two numbers appear below the model number.
V 6749563
FTZ-Nr.21/560 S
Now something good might be on the side. It is a number scratched into the painted part.
8-5-04 248049 ??
The two ?? represent what might not even be numbers but just scratches. Dunno.
So did I hit the jackpot with the 248049 number?
Thanks again for helping me out.

As far as a code, I think the dealership parts guy can look it up by the vin number and the or the serial number from the radio. I found the parts guy to be my best source for weird parts and exploded printouts. But you have to give these guys sometime.

754 seems to be a 1986/7 radio code was not used, buyer beware!

What can I say? It was advertised on Ebay with these words:
" 1981-1993 MERCEDES BECKER AM/FM CASSETTE AUTO RADIO"

We all know there are honest and not so honest people. Seems I paid $45 to one of the dishonest ones.
So exactly how much does an education cost these days? Is tuition cheaper?
My daughter-in-law is attending medical school at a cost of $35,000 a year I think is what they told us. Of course, school doesn't come with parts guaranteed either.
I now know (education part) that I need a 1432 model. So I am back checking out those on ... you guessed it... Ebay.
Thanks for the chart. It might help in resolving the issue with the seller and Paypal.

I have had my Bose rebuilt, the tuner portion at the same time, and have removed the CD it is in a box somewhere with the phone. It seems sometimes the CD keeps on running, with the ignition off. I purchased a new battery, because I thought it was defective and would not hold a charge
We'll see in the next few days.
Meanwhile, I discovered why my rear speakers were not working. The fader switch was disconnected and I plugged it back in and all it fine now.
Your help is most certainly appreciated, even if it is to reference me to the work others have provided here. I guess that is how community works best, for others to be recognized for effective help and ideas they bring to a group.

One chap sent me a program that calculated the code ought to be 3344 but that code didn't work.
So I ran that program to see if it would produce the code for my Becker with the non-working tape drive. It did produce the right code for that radio.
It serial number is 9742697 but it only plays AM/FM and I seem to be missing the cable that connects the CD drive to the second part in the boot so I can't say if it would run that CD unit yet.
Thanks for helping me out.
Maybe it would make sense to buy a radio that plays CDs, DVD music, MP3 and AM/FM?
If the last idea sounds OK, any suggestions about replacement units, such as Alpine or Pioneer or other brands? What about harnesses for the conversion?
Doug
I tried that but the radio only accepts four digits, those being 3344. They didn't cause it to play but left me with "WAIT" for more than an hour. After that, I just put the original radio (that does not play cassettes) back in because we were going on a short drive and I wanted a radio for that drive.
Thanks for the help, or attempted help. I am considering the getting another radio from Ebay in Germany now.

Thanks for the reply.

If any one is interested, I have a complete be1432 system available. Card code the chassis's, speakers and amps. It isn't cheap though.

If you have an owner's manual, it describes how to fix this. Basically, it will tell you to reset the memory of each window by raising each one until fully closed and then holding the switch for an additional two to maybe ten seconds per window. This resets the memory and the windows will work fine thereafter.
Hope this helps and you will find this in the Owner's manual. If you don't have one, one can be downloaded here but I forget where the download is. Maybe at the first page of the forum?
