How does the "speed sensitive volume" work?
On our W140s, it's advertised that they can automatically adjust the stereo volume to compensate for the amount of ambient noise, depending on vehicle speed. How exactly does this work? Is there a button I push on the stereo headunit to get it started? Does it automatically do it without any driver input?
If it doesn't require any sort of driver input, I don't think that function works on my car. Unless it's so subtle I can't pick up on it...
I had the same feature on my '95 Roadmaster Limited...that one either didn't work also, or the volume change was so subtle I couldn't pick up on it..

1997 W140 Chassis S500 Sedan
Don't know, but....
I just picked up my first MB, a '97 S500 sedan. I didn't know about this feature on the stereo, but I do know that my car's interior is so quite that I can't imagine it ever having to adjust the volume. Maybe if you were driving, 4 windows down and in a huricane you might be able to hear it in action, but other than that it's probably just as you say...too subtle to hear.

I was driving with the windows down tonight and I left the volume low and I heard it adjust it's self...it's subtle, but there. It works, I'm happy.
