Was it MB who told you this? Unusual for ECUs to go down. How is the engine harness?

yep, it's an mb tech.
however, i've done a lot of research myself over the last few months and everything i read indicates it's a relay.
particularly the ovpr(over voltage protection relay).
here's where i found the most convincing info:
http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_S500.html

i'm stil looking how to solve this issue.
it's just that i feel as if i'm driving a car in first gear with no power.

From the sounds of it the car is in limp home mode, the best thing to do would be to try and get a wrecking yard to let you borrow a computer and swap them to see if there is a difference, it's pretty easy to do just get them to mark the one they give you so that if you have to return it they know it's theirs and not the broken one.
