91 400SE: Trouble starting & smelling gas

Hi folks,

I have a 91 400SE and it has some trouble starting. It cranks for a while and then starts and then once it does, ther is smell of gasoline in the air. Once it starts and is on its way, then there is not semll of gas.

Can someone suggest hwat might be causing:

1) this cranking and delayed start?
2) smell of gas?

thnx

same problem

I have the exact same problem with my 92 300se, my car was up on the lift, and the mechanic noticed leaking gas comming off of a hose near the right rear tire. it looks like just a rubber hose, but can't tell for sure. doesn't seem to leak when the car is running, but just when you turn off the ignition, it seems to leak out that hose, anywho going to fix it this week will let you know.
