Lowering a W140
Does anyone ever lowered their w140? If so, please tell the following. My w140 is all stock with original shocks.
1) Do i need to buy new shocks?
2) What exectly will be done to lower the body to 1.5 to 1.75 inches?
3) Does anyone know how much is it going to cost me?
Anything else would be very helpful.

What does the size of the engine have to do with the way the car sits on on its hind legs? Tell me if I'm missing something.
BTW, the W140 looks stupid lowered. The car is already big, lowering it more will only make it look like you have bad shocks (or 1000 bricks in the trunk and cabin) . Don't do it. Just buy big rims.

I dont know if this will really help you. I Have a 98 cl600. I put Eibach springs in it to lower it. My car since it is a 600 has the option of the airride computer controlled suspension. Some 600s have it and some do not. It lowered my car about 1.5 inches. I also have Lorinser body kit and LD1 20s on it.
If you call Globe motorsports in cali, they will hook you up with some springs. But without wider tires and wheels it makes no sense to lower an s320. I also have an S500 97 and i would never lower that car. I hope most people would lower a car for the enjoyment of the ride. The wheelbase is too long for an S-Class 4 door to be a cornering car. I would agree put your money towards some rims, you get a lot more enjoyment out of those.

Now, i was thinking of buying bigger rims and wider tires. But the other day i was on the road and i saw an older w140 with huge, massive rims and tires and it looked cheap. See, i dont want it to look like a ghetto mobile.
On tirerack.com i saw some nice AMG monoblock IIs and i also saw AT Italia Lunas. They both are beautiful rims.
Which of those would you guys think is a better buy..is AMG better than AT Italia? and what size would make the car look unique but not ghetto?

Nothing, only how it performs, s320 has hte performance of a metro bus and should stay that way forever. Lowering W140 is beyond stupid. As to bad shocks, like I saidI have seen a few S320 with their rear end down way down, may be it were bad shocks (or those guys were building a brick house at the time) but it looked very sad.

I have UNlowered S500 wich has self leveling in the rear and is a rocket in comparisson to what you have. In London airport I have been givena ride in smart car and loved it enough to put in my whatever you call it here without actually owning one. Plus its a good bait for clowns like you. Sad to say but take that smart car out of your trunk and drive it instead because it is a lot more fun and probably faster. ME walking is faster than S320.

First of all, everyone doesn't need a s500 to be happy with the W140. I have a 320 and it serves me fine. Regardless of the engine size, all the W140 models "ride" the same (don't mistake ''ride'' with ''perform''). Yes, the 320 puts a lot of stress on the transmission (because of the weight and tiny engine) but its livable.
On the rims, you have to go with 20"s to get a low profile look. 18" and less look small on this big machine. If you get 20"s, get 245/35/20 tires and not the 255/35/20 because a smaller tire make the rims look bigger. However, the smaller tires will burn out faster (about 12k miles).
As far as being ghetto, so many people use the term like its a catch phrase, but few really understand the meaning. No matter what you do to the car, some will love it, some will hate it, but what's most important is that you're happy with it.
Since you're in the mood for after-market accessories, I would consider changing your grill with the W140 S600 grill to complement the rims. That grill gives the W140 and even more massive look.
Just my 2 cents.

It is a rocket compared to S320---go back and read. 0-60 it may be seen in the rear view mirror but after that, where is S320, on the metro bus route, serving hte comuting public?
Did not do your mod yet, will take Dremmel to the pipes this weekend after a trip to Sears. What a good advice, thank you very much, Sam. My only "mod" so far other than wheels is spare out of hte trunk
)YOur Dremmel mod is the most important I have ever seen on 140 forum.
I'd never expect a mod like this from Dufus Pedersen

Now the cool stuff: You dont have an S-Class, perhaps you saw a smart-car, which you dont really own. Even if you do, its a clustro-phobic piece of machinery made by chrysler not mercedes-benz. The " other guys" of 140 forum, what do you think? Sounds to me like ///S320 is a deeply wounded creature and trying to bite back like chihuahua. I enjoy it even if only for a very short time.

"hte" you got right! Everything else wrong but with S320 that is the least of your problems. Prerpare yourself to be blown away by Kev55 in his Ford explorer and other fine Ford products like Expedition for the duration of your ownership of the Benz you picked.

if your so in love with the amazing speed of your S500, feel free to race my dad any time you like, im sure his tuned EuroSpec CL600.....he was just too much of a "dufus" to get a job good enough for him to be able to afford such a rare specimen as the S500, so he had to stick with the quite underpowered 400+ hp V12....poor guy....as you have displayed in your continually expansive vocabulary, you are indeed the person to call my father a dufus, good work tough guy.....
I feel like I'm under pressure from the dynamic duo of Petie Pedersen and Dufus Pedersen, the Batman and Robin of this forum ,apperantly.
I will admit---- the Pedersens are just a better human beings all around, higher beings, in fact ThePedersens may very well be the Fifth Element, just like in the movie I've seen.
Petie, bring on the old man in the old car if he wants to beat the young stalian(me) in the old car and it will add to his life expirience "I'll do it, Don, I'll do it! But I never want to see you again, on or off the stage(forum)"
