Rear fog lights for S420

Rear fog lights for S420
I was changing one of my tail lights, when I realised that the rear fog lamp is on the driver (left side) only. The right side has a blank metal plate. Does anyone know if this is correct and if it can be changed into a bulb? It doesn't make sense to put the rear fog light only on one side of the car.

I think all MB's are set up this way. I am not 100% sure about this but I believe the reasoning is to highlight the driver side of the vehicle. I would assume that the right rear has the light in Europe. Maybe some else can answer this better.

There is only one so others dont confuse it with the brake lights.
It's on the drivers side so either direction you are going the light is on the left side. I dont think its because of cost reduction.
BTW my 2000 Land rover Disco II has 2 fog lights in the rear bumper and most confuse them with brake lights, on many occasions others have rolled down thier windows and say my brake lights are alway on

REAR fog
The single rear fog light is for conformity with U.S. standards and is therefore illegal for 2, due to the brightness......... believe it or not. Only in Europe is the plate altered to fit another bulb on the right-rear side, therefore having 2. I altered mine and placed another bulb, and I also altered my '00 Audi and added another bulb for the foglights because some ******* cop gave me a ticket for 'too many lights', which i fought and won......., so I did not want to be bothered again, so I simply added another bulb.
