Evaporator Information
Okay, so of course, my 92 300SE has a leaky evaporator, and I was quoted a large amount of money to fix it. Well, since I have a subscription to Alldatadiy.com, I figured, might as well look at how to replace the evaporator. While looking at how to replace this, I see that they replaced it through the engine bay. Is this case? and if so, why does the repair shops say that the whole dash has to be removed?
Has anyone else actually replaced the evaporator core through the engine bay or is the website not correct?

From all the correspondence on the forums, they all indicate the dash comes out. There is some work done on the other side of the firewall, are you shure you read the work article correctly and it applies to the 140?
I saw my car, and yes they replaced some other stuff and hoses on either side.

the evaporator tubes go through the firewall and into the dash the whole dash must be taken apart, it is mostly labor , about 20 hours worth of labor, plus the cost of a new evaporator, if done by a dealer about 4000 if done by a private mechanic who knows what they are doing about half that.....
