Hi doctorc, I replaced the ETA, but I realized after that my throttle linkage was poorly lubricated and little sticky, as a result ASR would come on,it always happened in the Springtime, when the car sat for a long period of time, eventually it would work itself out after numerous restarts and ASR would not come on. I never thought of checking the linkage, maybe it was the ETA,not sure but the ASR light has not come on since installing the ETA and lubing the linkage 20,000km's ago, the plus of all this is the increased MPG.
Forgot to mention that the ASR light initially came on after installing the new ETA, it was after the linkage lube that the ASR never came back on. Coinsidence maybe.
ASR / ABS light on. Heavy steering and no Speedometer
ASR / ABS light on. Heavy steering and no Speedometer. These were all caused by a single blown fuse in the can. The can is a black module under the hood on left side of car. Its where the computers live. Just unscrew the lid and lift it off. There's nothing scary about it. Cause of my distress was a flat battery and I received a jump start but the guy shorted my terminals. This blew the fuse. Cost of repair was 25 cents.
Just finished finding a fix for the SRS light on most of the time on my 92 500SEL. One clue was the light flashing sometimes when I turned a sharp corner. I removed the steering wheel, and found the 4 brass slip rings badly oxidized. Cleaned them spotless with a tiny wire brush on the Dremel, and also cleaned the brushes that contact the rings. Finished with electronic parts cleaner, put it back together, and Presto, the light goes out instantly and never comes back on.
1997 S420 w 185000 mi. ASR light appears intermittently but goes away after several engine stops and starts. Its occurrence was very unpredictable. Replaced brake light switch, fuses, etc. No change. Last month battery warning light came on. Replaced voltage regulator myself (warning, too much work but better than the $950.00 indie shop was asking.) Alas, ASR or any malfunction light indicators are gone. Check Engine light? gone. Also, before I replaced the voltage regulator, the a/c blower stopped working. AC controls and compressor all functioning. Bought a blower resistor thinking that it was the culprit. Everything went back to normal after I replaced the regulator. Now I have a spare AC blower resistor. My non-expert conclusion. When the alternator/ voltage regulator is in its last stages, so many thing can go wrong since the ECU senses an intermittent drop in voltage. I hope this helps.

Thank you very much! You've just saved me a lot of time and a lot of money i assume I had absolutely same symptoms, and you were right - under the black module lid there were three 10A fuses, one of them was blown (also, after a jump start), and when i changed the broken fuse everything went well!
Thank you again!
Hi. I also have a 1995 S600. I recently changed the brakes, rotors, rims and tires.
next day ASR Light came on and instant limp mode.
I Was able to drive for a few hours, however pushing gas deeper than normal and at stops, still gasing a bit to keep the car from shutting down. i have put my car on Non Op and has been sitting for a over a year. Id like to get back into fixing it. any help is much apreciated
How did you clean them are you referring to the coffin on the other side of the engine bay on the fire wall??
Asr abs lights come on because of bad brake light switch under steering column. I think you just have to remove the lower panel above leg area. I've heard it's simple and part is around $35-$40. Depending on where you get it.

-----I honestly dont know because mine has not gone to limp mode..however i would guess so because it has alot to do with connections. If it doesnt help...and this goes for everyone...please search for w140 mercedes groups on facebook as well. Theres alot of info on there..several groups and pages. Hope that helps.
Hello where is the brake switch located by the way...
its under steering column. In us on left side. Near brake pedal. You take panel off..lots of screws. Then pry off on two areas. Theres a bunch of vids on youtube. The brake switch has 2 plugs..unplug gently and twist swtch to right half turn and pull it out. It's $15-20 part. On ebay.
i replaced mine but did not fix asr abs light. Someone told me to replace my abs sensors. Cheap fix apparently. I'll try it next.
For the guy above i dont have a clue on voltage regulator.
The CAN that we are referring to is the controller area network (CAN) communication computer module system located under the hood on the passenger side of my S600. It has a black cover when once removed will reveal several computer modules. I removed each module and cleaned off any corrosion and used dielectric grease on all contact points. This fixed my problem, which had been diagnosed by my Mercedes dealer as as a bad speed sensor. My lights have been off since my original post.
Hi just reading through some of these replies, how do the units come out of the can, do I just pull them up or is there a clip, thanks.
Hey guys!
A month ago I got my 95 S500 scanned and fault was passenger rear ABS sensor! After researching online and no luck I called the dealer gave my vin and placed the order for new sensor! part arrived but the sensor on my car seems to run into the body and the part i received doesn't seem right! i've
attached the pictures below! any feedback would be helpful! Thanks!
Also from reading above ABS/ASR issues most of them sounds to me like a bad ETA (Electronic Throttle Actuator) that will put your car into limp home mode also bad engine wiring harness could also cause that! and on the 600's there are 2 ETA's those needs rebuilding! The bio degradable harnesses fall apart and cause all kinds of shorts! ecu's detects that and put the car in limp mode! you'll have crazy miss fires and shouldn't be driving the car like that! I am not sure if vector is still rebuilding harnesses and ETA's! look him up on youtube! he's your best bet and he does awesome work! www.RestoreYourMercedes.com
