Rear shocks
I have a 97 S500.
it has the self leveling rear suspension shocks with the spheres under the trunk area.
i had replaced one shock a year ago to the tune of $1200, and now have to replace the second one.
is there a conversion possibility for regular shocks that are not a fortune to replace?
i am willing to loose the load leveling option if i can have another kind of conventional shock installed that will sill give me a nice ride feel.
i appreciate any help i can get

They are typically around $700, by the time you modify the system and purchase two shocks at $125 each and put in spring pads ( the car will sit lower otherwise) you will spend some money, I dont know who charged you $1200 I would not use them again.

Those struts usually last at least 100 K miles, the accumulators go first, are the struts leaking? Unless they, are they are usually good

the struts are not leaking, the one that is bad is squeaking in warm weather and has no dampening at all, every pot hole or bump in the road it feels like its going right threw the car.
i am in Canada and the shock price is about $900 + labor for installation. $700 USD with currency conversion is close to $900 CDN give or take.
the strut could very well be an original since the car has 170K Kilometer on the odometer.
not sure what to do.

e 500 rear shock
i just noticed my rear shocks are not functioning properly so im taking my e500t in tomorrow. i use an independent shop and im not sure if he buys his parts from mb or not but im not looking forward to the bill. time for a newer wagon.
