Help Please.

I have a 1992 500 SEL with 201,000 miles that I had in storage (outside) for 3 years. Got it back on the road a week ago and drove it back from NY(I live in CT), no problems, 80-85 mph all the way to get emissions done, then when I left emissions the transmission does not want to go to 4th gear. In fact days later, I was driving to work, at 65 mph on cruise, it went to 4th gear, then slipped out of gear after about 17 miles of driving.

What could be the problem?

Boy ! 3years of no use I would have had the trans fluid and filter changed before I had headed out on a trip! I would say take it to a trans shop and get it changed and have it looked over while the pan is down! I understand that these trans do not like dirty and old fluid!!

I did have thr transmission fluid change at Aamco but they did not change the filter because the fluid was so clean and they did not have the filter, so I let them do it. I then put 2 bottles of the Lucas transmissio fix in and it rode ok until I reached about 17 miles then it slipped out of gear and then I notice smoke and transmission fluid underneath the vehicle.

Help....

Did you by chance overfill the trans? They do not like to be over filled!!!
