Shifting Jump
-Greg
As for the interior noise, this seems normal. Not quite sure myself how this is caused, but it could be the shifting of the door panels during bumpy rides?
For the starting up of the car, I would suggest not holding the key on the ingnition too long. I would turn it in < 1 second bursts. If it doesn't start the first time, keep on doing it until it starts. I don't know if this will work for you, but I use this technique myself and starting the car is no problem. Seemed to have worked with an abused '86 560SEL I drove for about a week or two as well as a '95 SL600 that seem to take some time to start (if starting with one ignition key turn, it would take about 3 seconds).

As for the interior noise, not sure how to fix it but I guess you could try to tighten the screws that are holding the panal together. You could find two screws beneath the arm rests on each door. There are other screws, but the two in the arm rests are the main ones.
As for starting the car, I forgot to mention that in my experiences, when I do this, eventually, it only takes a < 1 second burst to start the car. I have done this to the following cars:
1986 420SEL
1986 560SEL
1987 420SEL - Car I currently drive. No problems starting the car. Use to take < 1 second to start the car before I was the only driver.
1991 500SL
1995 SL600
