is it worth doing on my 98 s420

i need to replace my transmission for about 8m, is it worth doing (150m miles on the car)? I d like to keep the car another 5 years

yes it's worth doing.... My 1997 s320 lost a trans at 105,000 miles after the crroks at the benz dealer told me that I never needed to change the filter or fluid because it was synthetic... they wanted $5500 and I fould a local guy icould trust and he rebuilt mine with one year warranty for $1800..he recomended changing the fluid and filter every 35,000 miles. been fine for over three years.........

rebiult mine for bout 2500 and now the gear selector sounds funny when switching between gears.

92 500sel/01 320e wag
MB did mine with a factory rebuilt 2yr/24K warranty, about $5 with new cooler lines and trans mount. It did not need a converter, and had regular oil changes

Had a 94 S420 and had the tranny rebuilt a little after 90k miles. Worked fine afterwards till the day I sold the car. Only thing was when changing between P R N and D, there was a little bit more of a delay.

Yes. These engines are capable of 300K miles.

I've got 252K on my '95 and it's still running great. I've also got the orginal tranny.
