Hi i own 1995 s320 i just recently put a lot of money into the car and all of sudden i got ASR light popping up in my dash and all of sudden the car goes into limp mode.after i restart the car the problem goes away,it happened to me few weeks ago,but since this afternoon its happening a lot please let me know what should i do??????

 

I've had that same thing happen to another car of mine, a '02 BMW. It did it a couluple of times but not for a while now, its isolated instances. the dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it. Sorry I cant help tho.

 

Hi, I'm living in Thailand.
My W140 320 SEL go the same issue of the ASR light. I get it fix by open up the control unit at the air intake, the unit that the lock cable going in.

Inside you will find the insulator of wires are broken, you may need to touch some cable joint with soldering, I also clean it up and it never give me the problem since, that was two years ago.

Have your ASR codes read. Without it, there can be *lots* causes.

The most common cause for ASR lamp on these, must be

same thing happen to me first thing to chk (going on budget)wheel sensors, speed sonsor, overload sensor, engine wire harness then e-gas unit module and third the thottle actuator, mine turn out to be the most expensive 1 the throttle actuator and engine wire harness cost me 2300$ but i.ve seen cases on just a wheel sensor at $70 but first first to do is get the codes agmexdf@yahoo.com

 

My asr light and abs light are on also in my s500.. What do you all mean by limp mode??

 

my understanding of LIMP MODE is a feature that MB put as a safety feature/program that activates when something in the fuel or transmission does not work properly. keep in mind that the electronic wiring in this car goes in a cicle from computer to fuel-MAF-oil-etc so when somethings is bad it brakes the circle and the LIMP MODE activates...... Limp mode is whatever the spped you are going and activates it tells the engine (STOP NORMAL DRIVING SLOW DOWN) meaning if you are going at 60mph you have to slow down and goes to 3rd gear than 2nd and last first gear that way the engine stay running at low RPM stay in first gear so you can reach a mechanic, it can go to 2nd gear if you press the pedal to hard and rev it at high rpm but i would not sugest it, also if you turn the car off take the key out 4min the car car will turn off fine with out the limp mode untill it gets activated again and fix the issue, sometimes electronic stuff acts up but dont worry stuff happens, now if it happens more than 4 times than yes look in to it,,, hope this helps
