reving engine on 1999 S500

reving engine on 1999 S500
i went to ck out a used S500 today that had 115k miles.
it looked in decent shape, but i wasn't able to drive it.
however, i did rev the engine a bit - both in P and also in Neutral.
the sound was fine up to 4k rpm, but the engine was rough/hiccuping at 4k+.
is that normal while the car is in Park or Neutral?
it didn't seem right, though I usually don't rev engine at P or N.
just curious what you guys owners have experienced.
p.s. anything else that I should check out?
only thing i noticed was auto door lock and rear headrest buttons on dash not working.

Mercedes has a rev limiter at 4+ the engine will pulsate as the computer shuts it off, try it in a low gear. PSE pump under rear pass seat you should hear it run with lock or unlock, I bet the lumbars dont work either.

you sound like you really know the car...i've always liked the car, but only want to go forward if it's realiable. based on what's currently NOT working/brake squeeks/buttons not working, this $8k could end up being the beginning of my pymt plan to mechanic? i still have my 2002 S55 and it's nice when things are going well
