Any differences between 97 S 420 and....
98 or 1999 S 420?
Been sifting thru the forum here and most say that MY 99 is the best for the W140.
Came upon a nice 1997 and wanted to know the key differences between the later model cars?
How is the 420 different from the S500 except for engine displacement?

in 1997 poss late 1996 onward had assyst (active service system) has a larger lcd display in the instrument cluster to tell you how many miles or time left to the next service.

Between 98 and 99 no. But from 97 to 98 there were some things. S couple became CL, door locks became RF with IR features instead of just running of IR, maintenance reminder system in instrument cluster, and a few other things. Most important, 98+ have unlimited roadside assistance. Can't beat that one.

1997 S420 L
´98 has the new GPS antenna on the roof, rather than the old one on top of the trunk lid. There are probably tons of other small "adjustments" from year to year, bottom line is - the newer, the better 
I wanted a ´97 or newer, latest tail lights (ok, they can be swapped, but I want a stock car, not an old one that tries to be newer than it is hehe) and side airbags as the most important goodies. ´97 is also the first model year when they skipped the contrast color on the bumpers and side mouldings. Don´t know how keen I am on that though, I kinda like the grey bumpers and mouldings on a friend´s black ´96 600, while my ´97 420 is black/black. Makes it look slimmer. Hellooo! It´s a 140, it´s supposed to look big
