S500 Wiper Arm Issue

Hi.

The passenger side wiper arm on my S500 got stuck in up position and did not move. I checked the nut holding on the arm and it was a bit lose so tightened it up...wiper starting moving for about 10 cycles and then stopped again.

Checked and the motor and it is turning fine. Seems like the arm and mount are stripped (no grip) on the arm. My question is, do I need to replace the arm? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like the shaft holding the arm is stripped.....you have to also check and see if the shaft is actually rotating....turn your wiper on and watch it from the outside....is the shaft still turning when the wiper are does not? Could be the wiper gear also...here's the link...

Thanks for your reply! The shaft is rotating..I tighten the nut that holds the arm on and the wiper will move correctly for about 10 cycles then it just stops moving, but the motor(shaft) continues to move...not sure it would be the gears as you mentioned?? If the shaft splines are stripped, does that mean a replacement of the motor or can I just replace that piece...thanks for any help...just want to be armed with as much info as possible before making the plunge to have it repaired...

If the shaft still rotates even thought the arm does not....the splines are stripped either on the shaft or the arm. Remove the arm and look closly at the splines...are theh rounded/smooth/worn? Replace the arm. I'd remove the other arm and install it on the shaft and test it. It it works....you found the problem....junk yard should have arms/napa? Stealership? er...dealership.
