S320 Belt
Anybody have tips on changing the serpentine belt? I've read some diesel and 300E , posts which mention idler tension adjuster and fan removal.
The S320 owners manual was fairly useless for yesterdays oil change. I especially enjoyed the clockwise arrow on the oil filter cap. Silly me, I even drained the oil from the crankcase, and missed out on the challenge of sucking it out of the top (damned shade tree mechanic).

Glad to help Al.
First, pick up a $20.00 gizmo called a Idler pulley tensioning wrench. Basically a 16mm 3/8 drive socket fits on the fixed end of a 24" flat bar. Attach the socket to the nut on the idler pulley and pull clockwise on the bar to relieve belt tension, then remove the the fan belt, eventually over the fan blade.
To install the new belt, reverse the process, following the routing diagram in the owners manual. I found that starting with the lowest(crankshaft) pulley was best, and finishing with the alternator.

You bet.
Sometimes it takes a smart *** to finish things
I should add that I removed the fan shroud extension ring. Also, the Gates belt measured 20mm X 2238mm o.c. and fit like a charm.
Now I'm ready for front inner and outer wheel bearings.
How did your instrument cluster job work out?

Until I got 10 minutes into the drive and then the speedometer stopped! And the MPG stopped! And the cruise stopped!
And..the ABS light came on!
So....I am hearing that the speed sensor could be bad or the ABS module.
I am waiting for an opening at the shop for my turn...until then...
in the mean time....got orders back to Hawaii....just arrived on Guam last year with all the household goods and cars from Hawaii and now going back again...so I might have no choice but to wait until I get to Honolulu.
I appreciate you taxpayers paying your taxes so us military folks can travel!

I'll bet you're glad to be getting back to Hawaii. No complaints from this taxpayer. You guys deserve it. If you ever get posted at Travis AFB, there is a pick and pull in site of the main gate.
