97 S500 coupe blk on blk
recently found this beautiful machine sitting outside my mechanics garage last week and i was instantly in love
When i ask if it was for sale he said yes but he would not have the title for another week or so. I noticed that the rear was sagging and but didnt have the time to inquire further. I've heard that if u get the wrong car these bad boys will run your wallets dry!!
I've owned w126 and w124's before but never a w140 are they worth the hassle? and what are the pro's and con's of these beastly machines

MBWorld Fanatic!
I find that the w126 has better woods, and plastic parts that last.W140s have Wal Mart type plastic that breaks to easy. They use cloth in the head liner that stain easy.
The engine though have not had a problem in my w140,however will they live to be 27 years old as my w126 diesel,we will see.My w126 is a daliy driver,my w140 a highway cruiser.I'd take either on a 1,000 mile trip.

Try and be more vague, I'm practicing my mind reading skills.![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
Giving more info would help; mileage, overall condition, pictures (interior and engine), previous maintenance records, etc.
One can tell a lot of info by how a car is kept. If the little things that are broken are not fixed, then the owner obviously did not fix the big things either.
Interior dirty? I would not buy it alone on that...but's that just me. Man can't kept his car clean neglects other things.
Rear sags? Accumlators leaking? Who knows.
Pull the transmission dip stick out and check the fluid. Same with the oil stick. Check the coolant.
Windows work? Power door locks?
You know the drill.
But yes, if it has problems...you will not have a nice Christmas!
Why is it at the shop?
Ask questions.
People who have a W140 like them. People who have a W126, like them.
It's all subjective impressions.
