W140 Grand Edition VIN Question (Why??)
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to make some observations and comments about the W140.
1. Its an amazing car altho it was made in 1999, it only has 53k miles and the car rides like no other car on the road and the features the car has on it for a 1999 are years ahead of its time. I have been in new W220s and its not even close, the W140 walks all over them. I look like an old man when I drive it and my friends make fun of me in it but I dont care. Its the last of the true Mercedes Benz Vehicles! (1 Billion in research and development)
2. I was looking for the cars VIN on the windshield and it was not present. The only place I could find the VIN was inside of the driver side door. Does anyone know why the VIN is not displayed on the W140 windshield? I thought it was federal law to have it displayed. It is displayed on the windshield of my W211 E63.
My thought was maybe because the S500 was a car driven by heads of state and with the VIN and Tag numbers one could create a duplicate key very easily? Its just a guess but I find it very wierd and I know Mercedes Benz had a specifc reason for doing this.

NO VIN
that could be the reason, but i bought last week a 1989 260E (W124) and it did not have the VIN number on the dash (visible through windshield). i have had quite of few Mercedes cars, and it was the first time that i faced it.
