95 S600 Euro, problem with factory navigation/radio head unit
hey guys hoping someone out here can help me. I have ran into a problem with my S600 coupe. Car is a euro, so it is equipped with Auto Pilot, a primitive form of GPS, I think it was the first if I remember right.
Well any way while I had car in storage for the winter the trickle charger failed and thus my battery ended up going bad. So upon getting a new battery for the car I ran into the security code. I found what I believe to be the code in the owners manual (also in german), but original head unit had a broken volume knob. I can enter the code but I cannot press the volume knob to submit it. After trying to submit it with all the other buttons the on the head unit, some how now a message shows up telling me to please wait?
I have looked into replacing the factory unit now I have a few options repair the one in there now, which I would like to do if there is someone on the board that can do this? or is there a place you can order the parts from so I can maybe have someone locally do it.
I lastly have thought about replacing the unit altogether, I have a nice alpine indash touch screen, but have heard of the headaches with running wires and having tuner and various components all over the car. And the other one would be to replace it with another factory head unit. So my question here is would the radio from a 95 US spec s600 work? Because I highly doubt I will ever be able to find an autopilot unit the same one the car has now.
