1995 S600 sedan - how to remove cover below instrument panel??

greetings!

my car: 1995 S600 sedan

my problem: i need advice removing the drivers side cover (see photo - cream carpeted cover) located below the instrument panel/steering wheel. i am trying to remove the Steering Angle Sensor (N49) and therefore need access to associated connector N49/X1, located under the instrument panel/steering wheel.

i am following the WIS procedures removing all visible fasteners but still having problems releasing the forward edge of the subject cover (see photo - cream carpeted cover).

i read somewhere there are two spring loaded retaining hooks that keep the lower dash in place and to run a magnet over those two areas, fiddle around with a screw driver and that would disengage the hooks. no luck! i even peeled back some of the carpet edge on the cover to see if any fasteners were hiding.

the reason i am troubleshooting the Steering Angle Sensor (N49) is because of DTC fault 015 which i am able to clear, and fault 017 which does not clear even after initializing the Steering Angle Sensor (N49) by turning the steering wheel all the way right/left. i am reading these DTC error codes from the diagnostic connector pin-11 (ADS).

thanks very much to the benzworld.org community!

cheers,
rick

got it at end of this video:

never would have figured it out. WIS says to remove 2 screws when in fact 2 hooks/latches need to be released instead - well hidden by the way.

There are two clasps that hold it on. They are located on each side of the steering column. Ill try and find the pictures I have to show you location. You will need a small screw driver to un latch each of them and the rest are phillips head screws. They are two latches that unhook with a small lever. I cant find the pictures I had. Email me at alberini69@hotmail and Ill take pics of a parts car, if you still need advice.
