19" AMGs on my 1999 S600 - Look and Drive Great

I started driving my old S600 again, which is in great shape with 90k miles. I decided to mount a set of 19" wheels and tires from a 2009 S550.

I think they look great, and really update the driving experience.

But they are staggered (255/40 and 275/40) and the diameter of the rears is about 1/2" bigger than spec. Does anyone know if there are any log-term mechanical risks to having these wheels/tires mounted?

Also, is it worth changing the rear tires to 285/35 to get the diameter right?

your car will be a little bit slower, due to an effective higher rear end gear ratio (car will have slower acceleration) from running taller tires. I don't think it will be mechanically harmful, your speedo may read a little slower. I am speaking from experience with the opposite situation. I was running my rear 285/35/18 which is too short of a tire, for 18' correct rear size is 275/40/18. My speedo was a little fast (read 70 when going 65), and I had an effective lower rear end gear ratio and the mileage was therefore inaccurate after a while.

Hope that helps.
