95 S420 Moonroof/sunroof wont' slide

Hello All,

I have recently purchased a used 95 S420 from a gentleman who kept it in excellent shape cosmetically, but did just basic maintenance. I've got a new engine harness coming and plan on putting that in along with a couple of window regulator next weekend.

The issue that has me stumped is the sliding sunroof/moonroof. I still don't know the difference between the two terms, but I dont' have glass, it's solid.
To the point, the rear will tilt up and down but it doesn't want to slide back. When I try to slide, the right side lifts slightly, but the left doesn't.

In addition, there looks like there's two headliner covers, one of the moonroof and second one, just aft of it that's on the same plane, the same width, but only about four inches (10cm) in depth, front to back.
One other point, it doesn't appear to have the rubber accordion seals on each side, instead there's a very nice, quality looking piece of fabric which seals the sides when the rear lifts.

Any suggestions?

Gentlemandan

Well you really have a beauty----I think, repeat I think you have code 412b electric steel sliding/pop up roof and hopefully you have the owners manual which will tell you how to manually move the roof, that is if the control cable is functional.

Hopefully they donated the car to you, because you are in for some interesting work and expenses.

My suggestion is to leave the roof alone or spend the twenty bucks and go to WIS and learn about that very complicated sliding metal pop up roof contraption-----Very Good Luck
