Help please!! 1994 s420

Hey guys so I have a s420 1994 that's been giving me a headache. So lately my car has been bogging for a while when I press on the gas so I thought it needed a tune up. One day it just didn't want to start. It cranks but doesn't start. You can smell gas basically the car getting drained. So I changed the spark plugs and it was dark and wet. Thought I pin point the problem. Started the car just great drove at least 10 mins. No choking or anything, until I got onto a hill, it started to choke and died. I read that the maf tends to go back so I tried putting it on limp mode. So I disconnected the maf and car started perfectly. Perfect! Bought a new maf and connected it. Now the battery is died and the new maf is on. Car cranks but does not want to start. Fuel pump is working from hearing it from the fuel tank, spark plugs sparking but I do not smell fuel like usually. I tried going back on limp mode but car still doesn't wanna start. I was thinking the battery needs to be fully charge? Car is on security mode? Crank sensor bad? Engine harness going bad?

First off,has it had a upgraded wiring harness?Sometimes you can peel tape and replace some wires by splicing new wire in.I have heard crank sensor can die real fast with no warning. How many miles.

No oem wiring harness, I did check the wiring and it looked all cracked up....isn't the crank sensor for spark not fuel? I feel like the car can be on safe mode because the battery died? So that it's not dumping fuel into the system?
