Help with S500 trans
I'm sorry I am new to the forum and new to the W140 world. I bought my dad a 1995 S500 and loved it. Had to replace the throttle body and usual things. So then I got the bug and bought a 1997 S500. The trans would shift from first to second and that's it. It also had reverse. So I read in this forum about the service that might be needed so I did it all. Changed circuit board,fluid,filter,connector with O rings. And then made sure I used the MB trans fluid. By the way I have the 722.6 trans. Still didn't fix problem. So I read here about the trans control module maybe bad. Did find a couple loose solders but nothing major. Went ahead and found on with exact numbers and put it in and still no fix. Toke it to a MB specialist and they really wouldn't take the time just told me to replace trans. Any ideas guys?? I tried real hard to make sure fluid level correct also. Thanks a lot guys in advance I don't want to give up on her just yet and she shifts great in the couple gears and runs great. Also the codes it spit out once was input and output speed sensors. funny you should post as I was looking into same issue with tranny. I have an 2002 E430 4matic. I thought my tranny was gone and my mechanic did a fliud change only thinking that would solve problem with shifting. I had no higher end gears and reving about 3500 rpm at 100km hr speed, not good. Took to a transmission guy and the cose was same as yours....input speed sensor. I was just checking website to see if there are aftermarket parts. Tranny guy says a MB part is about $900 cdn, but chrysler has same part that should work at about $500. He told me to drive again after clearing code and see if happens again.Just waiting to see if/when code happens again to confirm.
