1998 S320 Central Lock System Help

I have a 1998 S320 with a central locking problem.

Yesterday I opened the trunk to get something out and the locking system seemed to have died. The first thing I noticed was the trunk handle did not pop out. When I tried to close the trunk it would not close. Apparently the close assist did not extend (maybe) ? After doing some trouble shooting, and tweaks I am able to close the trunk but it is not as tight as it would be if the system was pulling it down.

I checked all the fuses, even removed them for a few hours as someone had suggested, but the system did not come back alive. Everything else on the car seems to work normal. The door close assist is working as it should too.

My guess is the pump unit must have died, but due to the cost I would like to know for sure before replacing it. Also on a couple websites they talked about the look system would have to be re-coded with a special tool for the remote to work with the new controller. Could not confirm this?

I did locate and disconnect the wires from the Lock Control Pump System and reconnected, but that didn't do anything either. I did not disconnect the battery, but could to reset everything.

I have owned several Mercedes over the years but have never had a problem with the locking systems. Guess there has to be a first for everything.

I also wonder if there is a relay that controls power to the unit, but could not find anyone who knows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. . . .

Thanks,
Harvey

Door lock control pump

I checked the various obvious components of the electrical system including switches, fuses, etc., first and found nothing wrong.

I then took the pump (under the back seat bench) out of its insulation and then had someone actuate the remote door lock using the key. The motor did not activate. I then smelled the motor and realized that it had fried. I replaced it and all is well including the locking and unlocking of the trunk lid.
