My 1999 S500 had a dead battery. I jumped the battery with another vehicle. A friend connected the jumper cables to the battery and the vehicle started, however now the radio does not work. Although he won't admit it, I believe he initially touched the positive jumper cable to the the negative post.
I checked all fuses (front and rear fuse boxes), and all associated with the radio appear to be fine. Any suggestions or help would do.

Two things come to mind. First though, is this the stock Becker radio and if not, what brand and model number is it?
Second, is this a matter of entering the security code to make the radio work? If so, it should be in with your books that came with the car. it will be on a little card about the size of a credit card. You will need to enter a series of digits which can be done using the numbered station selection buttons.
Third, is there a possibility that a fuse is also in the radio itself? I ask because I don't know the answer but I am sure others here will know.
If none of this works you may want to contact the folks at http://www.carstereohelp.com/ who are very helpful and have a lot of useful information on their site.

Does the radio power on? The antena will go up if it does. If that happens and there is no info displayed, probably codes. If you don't have the books, go to a dealership and they can get it for you with the VIN.
Power comes on and numbers display but no sound, probably amp which is very expensive from Mercedes. I bought one on ebay for $199 and it is going strong after 18 months of use. Hopefully the parts guy will give you the part number and you can use it to shop for one. My dealership when I lived in Jacksonvuille Fl, Mercedes of Orange Park, did that for me and installed the used one for the cost of labor.
Some dealers might not be as helpful.
Good Luck,
Mark

I discovered a blown 15 amp fuse behind the head unit. After reentering my security code, the radio powers up and the antenna has retracting power, but no sound at all. I checked the 30 amp fuse in the trunk and it was not blown. Is there anything else I can check or fix myself? Someone mentioned the amplifier may be bad. Where is the amplifier located? and can I repair it, without replacing it?

There are two Amps actually. I think that they are in the trunk but not sure. Here is a link to the Mercedes Online guys. Very helpful.

It might be wise to go to Mercedes and pay for an hour of labor to troubleshoot it and verify what is wrong. Pretty pricey stuff!

It turns out that there is a 20 amp fuse on the Bose Amplifier itself. it is located next to the receptacle for the wiring harness. If you look for part number 140 820 37 89 on Google one of the results will be an amp for sale on eBay. One of those listings shows pictures including the end of the amp where the fuse is located.

fuse blow
I had the very same issue. Jump started car, (all factory audio in 1996 Mercedes S500 sedan). Radio powers up and all goog as far as visibility on the factory head unit. Had no issues before jump starting vehicle, just no sound from radio.
Checked fuse on Bose amp #1408203789, and it was blown. However, every time I replace 20amp fuse it instantly blowes. (battery disconnected while fuse is replaced-insert new fuse-reconnect battery and fuse instantley blows.
Possible bad grounding??
