Tension pulley locked!

1997 Mercedes S500 tension pulley froze and belt popped, The pulley came off in my hand when I went to unbolt it, but when I tried to undo the bolt nut, it would not budge. Am I just turning it the wrong way or what? I tried turning it to the right like I had to do in my Lincoln, didn't work, then I tried turning it to the left, didn't work. I don't won't to strip it and make matters worst. Can somebody give me some insight as to how I bacon get this thing off? Thanks a bunch Dr J...
