W140 Strutmaster Conversion Set

I just got my S500 back from the shop after doing the conversion from the hydraulic rear struts to the Strutmaster set. So far all is very good. The ride is the same as our S420 was with normal struts. Good tracking down the road and no apparent handling quirks so far. Strutmasters advertises 2 hours to mount and my shop took 6. There were no shops in Central Florida that strutmasters could recommend so it is what it is.

Struts were $522 delivered to my door and the shop charged me 6 hrs labor @ $90/hour, $540 + $58 for tax and shop expenses.

Conversely, replacement struts from MB Parts Center , http://www.mercedespartscenter.com/p...iagram=5890635 are $546.25/shock plus shipping. I would guess that the labor to put those on would be comparable.

So: Strutmasters Conversion $1120
Mercedes Replacement
Shocks with install$1690
Accumulators $800

Only about a $500 difference so not the savings I was hoping for. There is the idea that you are done with the other components of the hydraulic system so I see it as a win. I did the accumulators last year so not a big win for me. If you do it at the first sign of trouble, could be less than half of the replacement cost.
