Replacing Piston rings? s600 1997
Hey guys, took my car into the local shop and they are stating that the piston rings are bad and need to be replaced. Has anyone ever did this before? Car is a 1997 s600. 110k miles on it. I am in Austin texas,.
The shop just installed new plugs, boots and coil packs and it is still giving me misfires.
This car is not my daily driver so, I can afford to wait and take my time with this project.
Car doesnt feel like it has v12 power at all. any insight or tips I would really appreciate it.

out the bores and destroy the rings. What do they base their statement
on? Have they done a leak down test of the cylinder?
Do they have proper MB DAS Star diagnostics machine (where the cause
of the misfire can be investigated, either by error code, or
turning a cylinder of to see if it gets worse or better). Checking the
cam advance can also be done in Star. Mixture information also.
This german thread shows whats involved when changing rings (well
that engine had gone with unburnt fuel for a long time...);

thoose engines last a long time,unless it was raced all the time.I'd make sure cylinders looked good,and hone them.
