There is an excellent video on repairing the ignition switch by Kent Bergsma on Youtube. he recommends not turning off the ignition I believe, so you can remove the cylinder.

Here is the link to the vide:

2020 GLC300 touring version (but I miss my '93 300SE W140 tank)
This happened to me last week: '93 300SE, key would only turn between positions 1 and 2, I could not start the engine nor remove the key. My local dealer charged me $981 to drill out the tumblers and replace it and one key. There was no warning besides a slight (not noticeable over time) looseness of the key in the tumblers. Thankfully, it happened to the service technician while the car was in for diagnosis. FWIW, the dealer spent literally days working on it while only charging me for 3.9 hours.
NO WARNING!

Do you know if this would work on a 97 s320? The part model is a w140 and he doesn't include it in his video. I am in a serious need for a solution to my problem in the most conservative way, money and time wise. I can't turn the key past 1st position (only unlocking steering wheel) and cannot crank to start. Please help!!
