Hello everyone... from sunshine state
Hello everybody, my name is steve iam new to the group, here are few picts. of my w140 ...hope you like... however i wanted to ask if anyone has had the problem iam having with mine... which is transmission will stall really bad out of 1st. gear... sometimes it changes properly, but lately ...gotten worse... i have replaced transmission fluid and filter and added 1 qt. lucas oil... then it worked good for a couple days then started again i also adjusted the linkage under the hood... to no avail. it shifts ok in reverse maybe i should change filter again??? is that common 2 filter changes in 2 months? would appreciate any suggestions Thankyou.

depends on what year,the five speed auto's can suffer from the electronics plug leaking,and atf will get to computer under the hood.The v8's can fail early,do to not changing fluid,and filter.I no nothing of the 4 speed trans.The 5 speed,front seal likes to get old and leak,and the trans may need a new conductor plate.Use only non conductive ATF.

1997 Mercedes S420
I had a shifting problem in my 1997 S420 (especially when it was cold in the early morning hours) and it was resolved immediately when I had the transmission thoroughly flushed (including cooler) and new transmission oil, filter, and a plug for the electronic signal to the transmission. I have 259,000 miles on the car and it now runs amazingly smoothly. As I recall, it cost me about US$450 but there may have been other things on that invoice as well. All in all a real bargain.
