1998 S 420 - Limp Mode!

Seeking help on the pedal value sensor Bosch made, A 011 542 87 17. Notice that the potentiometer(PM) 2 is giving out 0.00 volts when it should have 0.1 - 0.4 volts at close throttle position (CTP). No wonder the electronic actuator (EA) does not "dance" around making those "clack, clack" sound when Ign. sw to position 2. Engine idle at 1200 rpm or there about. No DTC noted. Scanner also show that the engine oil is at -40 C!!! (...that could be the 7.4 carsoft issue)

ECU (ME 1.0) does give out 3.4 volts, (...should be 2.5 volts) to PM 2. PM 1 inside pedal value sensor is working well and giving out its expected voltages.

Question: Does the new version (?) p/n 012 542 33 17 by Hella a direct replacement? Understand its a Hall-effect sensor type. Or should I go for the real macaw? (...used from ebay? ) Your expert advice appreciated.

Thanks

OK, I got to answer my own question the answer to the question can be found at this link:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...1-1999-clk-320
-how-test-tps.html

In summary, those vehicle that uses the older version, bearing part number A 011 542 87 17 (...round body) can replace it with the newer design part nos. 012 542 33 17 (...rectangular body). ...but _Not_ the other way round!!!

*** Please go read the link for further clarification.***

Am glad to post this here for the benefits of so many owners owning such fine automobile that uses this component and know little about it. (that's me!) - Pedal Value Sensor. (also commonly and wrongly refer to as throttle position sensor/TPS)

Now I can safely go and shop one for this newer design part to use and hopefully get me out of the Limp mode.

Regards.
