Tail light conversion Issues

1993 500SEL W140

Hello all, I have purchased one of the updated taillight kits for my car. The taillights including the center bar go in perfectly into the car with some minor mods (couple of new holes had to be tapped out for the center bar). Here is where the problem for me begins... On the inside of the trunk the stock light bulb panels dont match up to the newer lights. Now I have looked at a buddys 97 model and I see there is a different systems to mount the lights bulbs. My question is, will that new panel just line up with the newer lights and will I be able to use my stock harness to plug right into it? Or is it easeir for me to just make my own system of light bulb sockets and plug them directly to the light. Has anyone out there done this mod and if so which path did you take. Thanks for any onfo in advance.

You are into everything all at once, I have not done this mod. I hear you have to round the trunk lid, you do need the newer bulb sockets that supposedly plug into the connector, The trunk lining is different because of the previous hinged light "door"
All I know some people have done it, go to this link! or search on talights

Thanks for the link. I checked that out and I guess I'll go with the simpler option of purchasing the interior part also. I didnt notice about having to shave the trunk when I test fitted the lights on the car but Ill look into that when I jump into the job. Its just annoying that the guy selling the lights dosent let you know about the other parts and you find out once your into the job.

Anyways Im just tackling some of the the things I left off from last summer, Ive had the car locked up for the winter and now were getting a break in the weather plus Ive also been working on 5 other cars at the same time. Hoping to get the Benz ready for the shows in the summer.
