1996 S320 running bad, issues...

When I first start my 1996 S320, it has a whining sound that lasts about 2 minutes then kicks out. Is that an issue? I have had issues lately with it running good, and have replaced plug wires, spark plugs, MAF sensor, and air filter. And when it starts, with a low rough idle, the sound kicks on immediately, and then, 2 minutes later kicks off, and idle goes up. Has an idle below 5000 rpm, and goes up to 5000 rpm when whatever it is kicks out. After going to town, about 6 miles, and back, the idle is between 5000 and 7000 rpm and runs fine. Any ideas guys?

Your car is operating normally;the sound that you hear on a cold start up is the secondary air pump. You will notice that when the car is warmed up and you start it you won't hear the sound.
the air pump is to speed up or heat up the catalytic converter.
all is normal!

Thanks, but the real issue about it running bad - it still doesn't want to run right. When I first start the car, no matter a cold start or a recently ran start up, the car wants to die. It starts fine, and the idle just decreases til it shuts the engine down, and I restart it, while holding the gas pedal down, until the pump kicks out. Then it runs at a good idle on its own. Sometimes if I set still too long or leave it running while parked for a few minutes, it starts to 'bump' during the idle, and tends to try to stall even while I am gassing it to keep it running. So confusing. I have never had an issue with this car that I could not figure out and fix myself. Is my dream over? I do have to add - I have owned this car for 6 years and it has 213,000 mi on it, and I put the last 120,000 mi on it myself. So I love this car.

try loosen the tensioner on front serpentine belt, start engine, see if the engine still struggle to idle. If not, then check all those items driven by the belt. Hope it helps
